Lesson
3 teaches students to be aware of their filters and perspectives
as well as positions and interests (go back
to review positions and interests.)
FILTERS are life conditions and experiences.
Examples include gender, age, culture, economic
status, jobs, roles, mood, relationships, and many other thought-conditioning
events.
PERSPECTIVES are shaped by individual filters. To some degree, we see the world through the filters of our gender, age, and other factors. At times, the filters may lead us into stereotyping others or having a negative view conditioned by early experiences and parents' views.
When a student starts the process of managing a conflict (separating people from problems), it is important to be aware of filters and perspectives.
